How to Clean Ceramic Pans and Cookware
There is nothing new about ceramic pans and cookware, and they have been around for some time. And to be honest, they are much better than the old Teflon-coated non-stick cookware of the 80s and 90s. So why is the question – How do you get burnt oil off a ceramic pan? – always coming up on social media and elsewhere. According to Google, you should put hot water and a small amount of liquid dish detergent into the ceramic pan and let it sit for up to three hours. This is supposed to remove burnt oil and food leftovers. If you have ceramic pans and cookware, you know that does not work. Then there is another group on YouTube promoting cleaning ceramic pans and cookware with baking soda and vinegar! Well, I guess all these people fail schience and introductory chemistry because if you add vinegar and baking soda to a pan, you add a low PH solution. In other words, an acid that will etch the pan’s surface makes it more prone to sticking. I have found the best way for simple burnt oil off a ceramic pan to place them on the stove under medium heat for 3-4 minutes and then pour a soapy water solution. Pretty much the same way you would deglazed a pan while cooking. If then fails, then it is time for power tools in the WD-40 as a lubricant to keep from scratching the surface. By power tools I mean the Dremel Versa. That works so well. I made this video about it! Es, the video quality is not excellent, but the message is on point! It was one of my first YouTube videos.
